Birth Prep and Postpartum

pregnancy and postpartum care in dothan, al

If you’re expecting, whether it’s your first or your fifth, you may have lots of questions. At Restore, we specialize in helping women prepare for birth and recover postpartum. With our birth prep sessions, we can help you manage pregnancy pains, bowel and bladder issues, and safely stay active throughout your pregnancy. We also work with you to develop an individualized plan to teach you how to push during labor, reduce the risk of complications during birth (such as perineal tearing), and find comfortable labor and birth positions. We can also help those preparing for a VBAC.

After baby, we want to help you heal, recover, and get back to feeling like yourself safely. Whether you’ve had a c-section or vaginal birth, postpartum recovery is so much more than “just do Kegels.” At your six-week check up, your physician may tell you that your body has healed and you can just get back to normal. However, there’s often more to it than that. If you’ve had perineal tears, a c-section, or an episiotomy, it’s important to address scar tissue so long-term complications don’t develop. If you’re physically active or engage in a sport, it’s important to return to activity safely. Additionally, many women find it painful to return to intercourse. Many women also have issues with incontinence, pelvic pressure, prolapse, and diastasis. You should not have to hear, “that’s normal; you just had a baby.” All of these issues can be addressed with pelvic floor physical therapy.
