Dry Needling

Dry needling is a safe and effective way to accelerate your recovery. It can be used to reduce pain, decrease inflammation, improve range or motion, and address bowel and bladder dysfunction. Similar to acupuncture, dry needling involves inserting a small, monofilament needle into various points in the body. It is called “dry” needling because no medication or fluid is injected into the body. This allows us to directly target trigger points in a way that we cannot do with our hands, which facilitates improved circulation and decreased sympathetic nervous system activity, allowing for return to a relaxed state.

Dry needling is also effective in treating scar tissue, such as after a c-section. Surgeries cause scarring, which creates areas of adhesions of tissues. This limits the ability of the tissues underneath the scar to function optimally and can create areas of nerve irritation. Fascial needling can improve the appearance and mobility of scar tissue, leading to improved function of the tissues underneath. Needling a c-section scar, for example, can lead to significantly improved bowel and bladder function.

Dry needling can be used as part of the treatment plan for:

  • Pain

  • Headaches

  • Muscle spasm

  • Decreased range of motion

  • C-section and post-surgical scars

  • Bladder urgency

  • Fibromyalgia

  • TMJ disorders and jaw pain

  • Plantar fascia pain
